A native of Montréal, Alexandra Nguyen maintains a diverse career as a collaborative pianist, teacher and administrator. She has performed throughout the United States and Canada, with recent appearances in Italy, Spain and Malaysia, at venues such as Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, The Barns at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia, Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Center in New York, the Teatro Nacional in Panama City and the High Commission of Canada in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A sought-after collaborator, she has shared the stage with artists including the Takács Quartet, baritone Patrick Mason, violinist Andrés Cárdenes, cellist David Requiro and bassoonist Peter Kolkay, with whom she maintains a long-standing partnership.

As a professor of collaborative piano at the , Nguyen co-directs the graduate programs in collaborative piano and coordinates accompanying services at the College of Music. An active clinician, she presents master classes and workshops nationwide. She is on the faculty of the Collaborative Piano Institute and has worked with Quartet Program West as well as the Opera Orvieto and Orvieto Musica programs in Orvieto, Italy.

Nguyen is chair of the Collaborative Committee of the Frances Clark Center and received the Outstanding Service Recognition Award in 2021 for her work with the organization. A founding member, she serves on the artistic team for “Dream Big,” a Canadian collaborative piano collective. She also served on the steering committee for the Music Teachers National Association’s 2011 Year of Collaborative Music and has been an invited speaker at the National Association of Schools of Music annual meeting, the College Music Society annual conference, the Music Teachers National Association national convention and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. A frequent adjudicator, she has served on juries for the Eastman International Young Artists Piano Competition, the Gina Bachauer Junior and Young Artists Competition and MusicFest Northwest, among others.

Nguyen completed her graduate degrees in piano accompanying and chamber music under the guidance of Jean Barr at the Eastman School of Music, where she was awarded the first Performer’s Certificate in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music. She has studied with pedagogues including Douglas Humpherys, Anne Epperson, Madeleine Bélanger and Suzanne Goyette, and holds a bachelor of science degree from McGill University and a Premier Prix from the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal.
