University of Colorado Law School Admissions Office Mission Statement

The Admissions Office of Colorado Law seeks to recruit, enroll, and support a diverse and intellectually outstanding community of JD students who demonstrate the academic ability, character, and commitment to public and professional leadership necessary to advance the rule of law and the public good. We select students to join our community that show character, leadership, and an appreciation for public service. We evaluate all applications holistically, valuing rigorous academic preparation, analytical skill, broad intellectual curiosity, meaningful life and work experience, ethical judgment, and the capacity to contribute to an inclusive learning environment. We welcome candidates from varied backgrounds and life experiences, and we strive to open the profession to talented students whose voices and perspectives will strengthen the law and society.

Our admissions decisions are driven by the law school’s educational mission: To be an outstanding public law school that provides students with a state-of-the-art legal education and prepares them to serve wisely and with professionalism; advances the development of knowledge through scholarship, testing of new ideas, and challenges to the status quo; and serves as a vehicle and catalyst for meaningful public service, all of which deliver high value to our students and have positive impacts—both locally and globally—on the legal profession and society. We seek applicants who embrace experiential learning, who will both benefit from and enrich a curriculum that combines doctrinal rigor, clinical practice, policy engagement, and global perspectives. We aim to build cohorts that foster collaborative learning, vigorous debate, and mutual respect, equipping graduates to solve complex legal and social problems.

The University of Colorado does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, creed, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status in admission and access to, and treatment and employment in, its educational programs and activities.
