Sustainability Scholars Program

The inaugural class of Sustainability Scholars 2024-2025: Daniel Hershey, Wesley Obmascik, Sloan Hurley, Madisen Medina.
This program supports Leeds undergraduate and MBA students with a financial stipend of up to $2,500 for the pursuit of transformative educational opportunities in sustainability and social impact. To learn more about the inaugural class of Sustainability Scholars, click here.

CESR is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2026 - Spring 2027 school year. Applications are due by March 13th. Decisions will be announced by April 15th.
Eligibility
Students are considered for this award based on a comprehensive review of their academic and extracurricular achievements. CESR encourages all Leeds students with a unique and diverse perspective to apply.Ìý
This is a competitive award and to be considered students should demonstrate the following:
- Participation in a core CESR program (SRE Certificate, SRS emphasis, Clean Energy MBA Pathway or Sustainability MBA Pathway)
- Student club membership and involvement in leadership initiatives on or off campus
- Active participation in CESR programs
- Demonstrated passion for sustainability and/or social impact
- A competitive GPA
Program Details
- Membership in a cohort of values-aligned Leeds students
- Resume-building and professional development
- A $2,500 stipend to explore educational opportunities in sustainability and social impact, including doing an unpaid project or internship, seed funding for a startup, attending a conference and creating a related final product, completing a certification, etc. (more examples below)
- Final presentation to CESR staff and affiliates
- "Expert Briefing" on a topic relevant to your use of funds that we can publish on the CESR website and amplify through LinkedIn.
- 1 dinner per semester
- One-on-one meetings with CESR staff as needed
- 1 mini-retreat in August before classes start (1 day or less)
- Participate in CESR events, encourage peers to do the same, and talk about experiences with our program.
- Participate in monthly meetings with the new cross-campus SPIKE Student Emissaries program.
Awardees work with CESR to build and execute a plan of action to best use their stipend. A student has up to $2,500 to pay for a certification or an experiential learning opportunity. Here are a few options students may choose, though students should be prepared to present their own ideas.
