Chasing hail: Researchers fly drones into storms as part of largest US hail study in 40 years
Involving scientists from 17 research institutions—including CU Boulder Professor Brian Argrow (Aerospace Engineering) and his team—the In-situ Collaborative Experiment for the Collection of Hail In the Plains (ICECHIP) is exploring the conditions that give rise to hail, which causes billions of dollars of damage every year.
Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade announces grants to CU Boulder and CU Denver startups and researchers
The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT)'s Advanced Industries Accelerator Program has awarded 22 Colorado companies and 13 researchers Proof of Concept and Early-Stage Capital and Retention grants, including seven CU Boulder and CU Denver ventures.
Quantum Scholar’s journey into the future of computing
"Quantum is going to be everywhere—finance, pharma, energy and even weather forecasting," says Arjun Dalwadi, a third-year electrical and computer engineering student. "We need scientists and researchers who can bridge the gap between the theory and the real-world implementation.”
Interdisciplinary teams awarded Workforce Development Seed Grants
CU Boulder has announced the awardees of the 2025 Workforce Development Seed Grant Program, a campuswide initiative aimed at fostering innovative approaches to workforce development in Colorado and beyond.
A common heart failure treatment comes with high risk of stroke. But a new discovery could make it safer
A new study led by engineers and researchers at CU Boulder, CU Anschutz and the University of Washington is mapping the blood flow of heart failure patients being treated with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) to lessen the risk of stroke.
New quantum navigation device uses atoms to measure acceleration in 3D
In a new study, physicists at CU Boulder have used a new type of atom “interferometer” to simultaneously measure acceleration in three dimensions—a feat that many scientists didn’t think was possible. The device could one day help people navigate submarines, spacecraft, cars and other vehicles more precisely.
Outdoor recreation offers a path to community resilience
CU Boulder’s Rural Technical Assistance program helps rural Colorado towns use their natural assets to strengthen local economies, deepen partnerships and define their own futures. The program blends grassroots visioning with technical support, and centers outdoor recreation as a tool for long-term resilience.
Three teams take flight with RIO New Frontiers planning grants
The Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and New Frontiers Grant partners—the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences, and the School of Education—announced planning grant winners in the New Frontiers Grant Program, a novel initiative designed to foster new, interdisciplinary research directions for CU Boulder.
