Academic Year 2015-16 officially open. New campus at the center of the Opening Ceremony

Today, November 24th, the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2015-16 of Universityhas takenplace at the presence of the major local and national Authorities. During the Ceremony the new campus project of about 20.000 sq. m. currently under constructionwas presented. Among the international guests Seth Berkley, CEO ofGAVI, has heldalectio magistralis on the importance of vaccines as an investment for global health and safety.

7Works for the new campus of University have started some weeks ago. With 4 new buildings dedicated to education, student services, research and university activities, accommodation for students and researchers, the campus will reach over 20.000 square meters and will be ready for the academic year 2017/18.Besides classrooms and laboratories, dorms,study rooms and sport facilities the new campus will host a last generation Simulation Center of about1.000 mq, with4 operating rooms, 3 multimedia rooms, 2 ambulatories, 1 emergency room, 4 rooms for clinical and surgical skills, 1 microscope room, 1 wet lab.

This topic has been at the center of the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2015/16 which has taken place this morning at Congress Center.Many local and national Authorities were present: Mrs. Giannini (Italian Minister of Education,University and Research),Mario Melazzini (Assessor of Production, Research and Innovation of the Lombardy Region), Mr. Pisapia(Mayor of Milan), Mrs.Agogliati(Major of Rozzano) and Mr.Festa(Major of Pieve Emanuele).

The President of Gianfelice Rocca, the Rector of UniversityMarco Montorsiand the Vice Rector for Research Alberto Mantovani haveintervened at the ceremony.

The Ceremony is a fundamental moment of celebration for University’s community:340 students from all over the world, and in particular, besides Italy, UK, USA, Greece, India, Canada, Nigeria. International Faculty made of 23 professors, 200 medical and research tutors and 7 visiting professors, including medicine Nobel Prizes Rolf Zinkernagel and Jules Hoffmann.An Advisory Boardmade of7 international experts in the field of research and university, originating from leading institutions such as Karolinska Institutet, Imperial College and the University of Leuven.

Prof. Montorsi: we want to attract and educate talented students from all over the world

“We started with 12% of foreign students in 2014, our first year, now we have already reached 44%, including students from non European countries, with the goal of a steady 50% of the student population made up of foreign students for the future.” – says Prof. Montorsi, Rector of University.

“We strongly believe in internationalization, because Medicine has no national boundaries. Internationalization means to us providing Italian medical students with the best knowledge, in order to be able to apply itabroad both in clinical activity and in research, but also to attract and educate talented students from all over the world, so that at the end of their education at University they bring knowledge and innovation to their home countries.”
