Becca Clark Siever is a white, able-bodied, cisgender, heterosexual woman. Becca’s ancestors voluntarily immigrated to the United States from a smattering of Western European countries during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Some settled in the north, and some settled in the south. Becca’s ancestors could own property, access the G.I. Bill after serving in WWII, qualify for mortgages, create generational wealth, and simply exist without fear of being unfairly funneled into the criminal legal system.

Becca holds degrees in Economics, Religion, and Law. Recognizing that this educational privilege derives from unjust colonial capitalism, Becca pursues opportunities for reparations, healing, transformation, liberation, and disrupting anti-Blackness. ��Above all, Becca strives for honesty and authenticity — with herself and others.

Some experiences that inform Becca’s approach to teaching Legislative Analysis, Writing, and Advocacy��include witnessing ICE raids in North Carolina in 2008, the repeal of the death penalty in Colorado in 2020, the deforestation giving way to the development of Atlanta’s “Cop City”, and the LandBack and Rights of Nature movements.

Some beliefs that influence Becca’s relationships both in and outside of the classroom community include “Hope is a discipline” (Mariame Kaba); “The only way to build hope is through the Earth” (Vandana Shiva); and “The only way to survive is by taking care of one another” (Grace Lee Boggs).
