2025 Capstone Symposium Themes

Local Government in Action

With ambitious goals set in sustainability and resilience plans, cities across Colorado are collaborating with MENV to build capacity to take action. MENV students will present projects completed in collaboration with local governments to build sustainable solutions from waste diversion to decarbonization.

Enhancing Climate Resilience

As the climate crisis intensifies, all sectors of society are under increasing pressure to adapt and respond. MENV student teams partnered with government, non-profits, and private sector organizations to tackle pressing climate resilience challenges. Projects will highlight work spanning the outdoor recreation economy, energy, green infrastructure, and food systems.Ìý

Water Advocacy

Water in the southwest desert is more than just a resource – it's life. MENV students have been hard at work with non-profits leading the charge in advocacy and working with communities at the local, state, and national level. Student projects include beaver reintroduction, water access rights, evaluating how science informs policy, and conducting surveys to better understand changes to our water sources and ensure access to clean, healthy water for all.

Powering the Future

Ambitious climate goals can only be accomplished through changes to our energy systems and the energy efficiency of our built environment. Students will present their work on long-duration energy storage technologies, solar and storage development, emission reducing technologies, and building an innovation platform.Ìý

Private Sector Sustainability Solutions

Companies from across scales are looking for ways to build resiliency in the face of climate change, both through internal systems and through leadership in their sectors. Our students will discuss their work addressing circularity in the outdoor industry, performing supply chain assessments, and developing sustainability action plans with private companies from food, clothing, music, and technology sectors.Ìý
