Advisor:Professor Sutter•Maggie McNulty is a PhD candidate in History at the University of Colorado, Boulder with a focus on environmental and urban history, currently researching the history of race, spatial geography, and environmental activism in Denver, Colorado. McNulty’s dissertation,“Legacy of Pollution: A History of Environmental Injusticein Denver’s Most Polluted Zip Code,” explores the long history of industrialization, urbanization, and activism in a working-class Latinx neighborhood in Denver. Her research examines how the popular perception of Colorado as a place with a pristine environment collides with its legacy of pollution. A Philadelphia native, McNulty holds a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and bachelor’s degree from Drexel University. Maggie’s work has been published in Arboriculture & Urban Forestryand Environmental Sociologyand has been generously supported by the History Department, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the Center for Humanities & the Arts.
